ECO 2022 CARPET REVIEW

Image
The dust was beginning to settle on the SDFB scene as events became scarce and we saw our once thriving landscape desaturate into arid dusty dunes - then blossomed a newcomer; ECO. Teaming with lush life and vibrant hues, ECO was a freshly conceived event promised to be as wild as its animalistic theme, chosen by its hosts Aizie and Tom. All taking place on the eve of February 26th, ECO ushered in the onset of the spring season and opened its garden gates to the whole of the animal kingdom, showcasing a spectrum of looks from beauties and beasts alike.  Most of whom migrated to the watering hole did so in magnificent displays of fashion and flare, others however drowned faced down in a shallow pool of their own misdirection. As resident king of the jungle, I have returned once again, brushing out my shaggy mane and poised to unleash a roaring review of the highs and lows of the night with my infamous fatal bite.  In slight alteration to traditions, I have streamlined my select...

DIAMONDZ 2021 CARPET REVIEW

Image
After what can only be described as a turbulent and tumultuous year, we suddenly find ourselves peddling faster than a speeding bullet towards the latter quarter of 2021 - and with it comes a lively lineup of SDFB events, kicking off with the dazzling Diamondz, hosted by Umut Gulme on the eve of September 5th. Originally pegged as a flashy ode to Y2K fashion and culture, this years theme lent itself to the attendees interpretation of an era of their choosing, taking us on a thematic trip through time and its reflection on fashion through the ages. Bestowed upon us was a buffet of fancy flappers, dolled up Dior debutants, futuristic fem-bots and just about everything in between. With a theme as broad as the one at this years Diamondz, we were given a much more introspective look into the way the most beloved members of our community navigate the process of dressing up for duty, and the true scope of their ability to reference something special. A vast majority of those who showed up did...

TMB 2021 CARPET REVIEW

Image
The deep cloak of night swept over SDFB on the second weekend in May, and with it brought the onset of a much anticipated double-feature deadly event aptly titled The Murder Ball; hosted by socialite quartet Alexandra, Umut, Ahnaf, and Jane. Over the course of two nail-biting evenings we were plunged into a parade of killer looks, stretching from criminals to casualties and every violation in between. While many attendees hit the fatal theme flawlessly, others hammered the final nail in their own coffins with simply irrelevant and/or uninspired ensembles that missed the mark entirely. Alas, by the power vested in me by my avid readers, it is my duty to dissect the abundance of outfits and cut through the dead weight to draw together an elusive list denoting those who slaughtered the TMB carpet, and those who made me itch to secure a fast-track ticket to the morgue. As ever, I hand selected by top five best looks, five worst looks, and a triple dose of honourable mentions to cast my cut...

ESA 2021 CARPET REVIEW

Image
In what feels like the blink of an eye, I find myself back once again to dish the dirt on a flurry of 'fits from another outstanding SDFB event; this time, the End of Stardoll Awards, wherein many of the communities finest talents racked up accolades for their work and contributions, as we communally waved goodbye to Flash, and in turn, Stardoll as we always knew it. The event, hosted by Alexandra Saab and co-ordinated by Umut Gülme, boasted one of the most impressive carpet events in years, following a theme of the four elements (earth, water, air, and fire) and in succession followed a striking array of theatric and fashion forward looks - alas, some attendees were unfortunately just out of their element. As is tradition around these parts, I hand selected my top 5 best looks, 5 worst looks, and a trio of honourable mentions to dissect. A reminder that these are solely my opinions, and the minor backlash I received from my last review has not deterred me from keeping it 100 and s...

SDMAS 2020 CARPET REVIEW

Image
The 2020 holiday season is officially upon us, and with it comes the annual SDmas event hosted by renowned socialites Umut, Melek, and Berke - a festive evening of togetherness complete a with merry red carpet, where members of our beloved SDFB community put their best fashion foot forward (with varying results). As per my recent BEA Carpet review, I once again hand selected my five best looks, five worst looks, and a few honourable mentions of the night. A reminder that these are solely my opinions and ultimately have absolutely no value whatsoever - any and all emotional damage is not covered by our insurance, so please proceed with caution.  (PSA: all looks featured were designed by the person wearing them, unless stated otherwise. None of the criticism is based on the quality of the graphics, but rather the look itself.) BEST OF THE NIGHT;   DARLAH Kicking things off with hands down my favourite look of the entire evening; angel faced Darlah Rivera wiped the floor clean wi...

BEA 2020 CARPET REVIEW

Image
On the eve of December 5th, the SDFB community gathered in anticipation of the Black Excellence Awards - in which many established members of our beloved internet cult snagged well deserved awards for their contributions in StarDesign, graphic design, and popularity. But alas, before the trophies were doled out, all attendees received their moment in the limelight as they showcased their best looks for the opening carpet ceremony.  I selected my five best looks, five worst looks, and a few honourable mentions of the night to endure some appraisal and/or scrutiny from yours truly. Note that these are solely my opinions, don't mean shit, and were highly sought after from the vast majority of you; ( PSA: all looks featured were designed by the person wearing them, unless stated otherwise. None of the criticism is based on the quality of the graphics, but rather the look itself. )  BEST OF THE NIGHT; BANKSY TGP runner up and last nights winner of Best Graphic Designer, Banks...
